Michael Knowles, Filmmaker
A candid discussion with Indie Filmmaker, Michael Knowles, about his experiences getting his Indie films, Room 314 & One Night, made. Michael
will share how he managed to get Oscar Nominated actress Melissa Leo in his film One Night and how he recently attached Michael C. Hall to star in his next feature film, East Fifth Bliss, which will be shot in May of 2009. Michael will also answer some of the questions most indie filmmakers ask. How do I get my script to name actors? How do I raise money to make my money? How can I make my movie with very little money?
Michael Knowles is an award winning filmmaker who acts, writes, directs, edits, produces and is a cinematographer. His short film Nick and Stacey premiered at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival. Nick and Stacey was the first story shot for his award winning feature film ROOM 314, which he wrote, directed and produced twice as a play before making it into a feature film. Michael’s second feature film, ONE NIGHT, a screenplay he also wrote, starred Oscar nominated actress Melissa Leo, Bill Sage, Michael Muhney, Robert Clohessy, Aaron Staton, Christian Campbell among others.
In between film projects Michael coaches and teaches acting.

Joshua Tabachnick, Composer
Joshua and Charlie will take you through the process of composing, recording and creating that special sound for film. They will utilize clips from one of the films they collaborated on exchanging styles and instrumentation illustrating the importance of music to film and the delicate interaction and balance between the two.
Charlie Mangold is an audio and broadcast specialist with 20 years of creative and technical experience, encompassing writing, recording, editing and producing. Charlie founded Mangold Music Productions (MMP), and built and ran a full digital audio and video production center where he scored several films, television programs, and commercials. He collaborated with Joshua on the score for “Scene Stealers” which has received numerous accolades at several festivals.
Joshua Tabachnick has composed music for several independent films. He composed the music for The Kent Film Festival 2009 trailer and recently had a world premiere of his piece Lauren’s Waltz performed by The Florida Philharmonic. He has composed music for numerous corporations and is currently working on a score for a Television series.

Making a film is only half the battle. After, it is finished, you still need to find a way to get it out there. In this hard economy and changing distribution landscape, what do you do with a film if one of the big boys don’t want to buy it. Hear some of the ways a small film can find it’s audience and how Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story, went on to be a profitable film without a major distributor behind it.
Darren Goldberg founded Atlantic Pictures in February 2007 with partner Chris Marsh. The company’s first feature film, the comedy Splinterheads, will premiere at the SXSW film festival in March. Prior to launching Atlantic, Darren Goldberg produced numerous award winning films. His first film, Manito, was a $50,000 feature that went on to win several awards. Darren’s other credits as a producer include Cry Funny Happy, ROOM, Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story, Gardener of Eden, directed by Kevin Connolly, and The Cake Eaters directed by Mary Stuart Masterson. Darren has also served as a production supervisor on various films including Bruno Dumont’s Twenty Nine Palms, Andrew Niccol’s Lord of War starring Nicholas Cage and Ethan Hawke, and Whatever Lola Wants, produced by Pathé films.
